The sushi class is a great introduction into the art of sushi making. Participants will learn the history of sushi, types of sushi, how to make proper sushi rice, how to roll Hosomaki, Uramaki, and Futomaki. Instruction on how to slice fish for sashimi and sushi, and how to make Nigiri will also be taught. Each participant will make between 30 to 50 pieces of sushi – with plenty to take home. A complimentary glass of beer or soda is included.
The Traditional Japanese Cooking class focuses on both seasonal cooking such as Osechi (Japanese New Year feast), Hiyashi Chuka, or Nabeyaki Udon and popular items such as Ramen, Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki. Background and history of dishes are also provided. This hands-on class ends with participants enjoying the dishes prepared (with plenty to take home) and recipes. Items prepared will vary depending on the time of year and products available; prices vary each month.
Both classes offer participants insight into the cuisine and culture of Japan including popular terms, common food-related phrases, and ceremonial food rituals that are an intrinsic part of the cuisine. Each participant also receives discount coupons for future visits to Nombe.
